The Labor Day holiday celebration began in the 1880s as a way to honor workers and day laborers for all of their working efforts. Therefore, as you celebrate this year, plan a labor day party that facilitates relaxation and recreation.

Here’s a few suggestions for your Labor Day Extravaganza Party:

Back-to-school bash—

This is great for kids of all ages. Plan a short scavenger hunt to find school related items. Create inexpensive back to school kits with pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc for each kid to take home. Get a cake that has all the kids name on it wishing them a great start to the new school year. For older kids plan one last sleepover with all their favorite movies and summertime treats.

Neighborhood Labor Day party ideas-

Celebrate the end of summer with a block party! Keep it simple by making it a potluck theme. It’s a great way to let the kids play and let adults sit back and relax and catch up on what everyone’s been up to this summer. Encourage older kids to get a game of basketball, volleyball or flag football going.

Beach picnic-

Plan one last trip to the beach and bring along a traditional picnic. Make sure you bring plenty of sunscreen and beach toys.

Backyard Labor Day party BBQ-

Fire up the grill before covering it up for the season. Decorate with tiki torches, hurricane lamps, paper lanterns and of course citronella candles. Encourage people to bring lots of fresh fruit that will soon be out of season! Check out these grill and picnic salad recipe ideas.

Plan a bike ride or day hike-

Take your gang on a bike ride or day hike along your favorite trail. Pack a light picnic lunch to enjoy.

Plan a camping trip-

Some sites may already be booked up so if you are planning a camping trip for this Labor Day weekend, hurry and make you reservations. Get a big group of family and friends together for one last trip!

We hope you enjoy your 3 day Labor Day celebration weekend! Relax and enjoy the last days of summertime! Read more on labor day History & Trivia
