When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween!”. Check out these creative and creepy Halloween Outdoor Decorations Ideas for your haunted house.
Halloween Pumpkins:
Pumpkins can easily be made into some very scary jack-o-lanterns. Scatter your craved pumpkins around the front porch and illuminate them with candles. (be sure to blow the candles out before you go to bed!). Check out our pumpkin carving tips and ideas
Halloween Graveyards:
Creating your own ghostly graveyard is a surefire way to scare your trick or treaters. Make your own tombstones or purchase them at a craft or party store. At some of the grave stones place body parts (a stuffed shirt and head at one, with stuffed pants and shoes at another) Placing plastic bones and skulls with fake blood are good additions to your graveyard. Placing a wrought iron fences around the graveyard gives it an old and scary feel. Use a fog machine to really finish the scene. This will make up a perfect outdoor Halloween decor.

Use Coffins For Halloween Outdoor Decorations:
Build your own coffin with 6-8 wood pieces and place a dummy in it. Create your own dummy by stuffing an old shirt, pants, and shoes with leaves or batting. Use a balloon for the head and place a scary mask over it. Or consider having it closed and position a fake arm hanging out of it. Add some fake blood for an additional fright factor.
Halloween Ghoulish Ghosts
Create a flowing ghostly shape to scare passersby using leftover wood scraps, gauze and fabric starch.
Materials:
- 2×2 scraps
- plywood or MDF
- plastic foam ball
- screws
- rags
- duct tape
- drop cloth
- white gauze
- fabric starch
- scissors
- pail
- straight pins
- bricks or rocks
Directions:
- Cut the 2×2s into three pieces (one long with square ends and two short with one end angled on each) and cut the plywood or MDF into a circle (about 24 inches in diameter) for the base. Screw the pieces together to create a life-size stick figure. Tape rags over the arm ends to simulate hands and screw half of the plastic foam ball to the top of the middle piece for the head. Place the figure over a drop cloth.
- Cut about 12 to 20 six-foot strips of white gauze for each ghost and dip them one at a time into a pail of fabric starch. Pull the gauze out slowly, wringing it out as you go. Unfold each piece and drape the lengths of gauze over the ghost frame until you have created the desired thickness and shape (figure B). Note: You can create hoods, capes and high or low arms, depending on how you put the frame and gauze together. Be sure to lay the gauze as flat as possible at the bottom, which will allow for bricks or rocks to hold the ghosts down so they don’t fly away in the wind.

- The gauze will eventually dry and harden. If desired, add a couple strips of dry gauze and pin them in place to the hands and head. These will look spooky on a windy night.
- Place the ghosts on a covered porch or out in the open for short lengths of time on a dry evening (rain will soften the dried starch and leave you with a puddle of gauze instead of a frightening ghost!).
Scary Music:
Pipe scary music into the neighborhood. It sets the eerie tone for a night of fun, fright, and trick or treating! This would be a perfect idea to add that scary, haunted touch to your Halloween Outdoor Decorations.
