Mexican people are by and large warm and vivacious individuals with an incredible zest for life. With 365 festivals to celebrate through the year, fiestas are a way of life for Mexicans. If you are planning on hosting a fiesta for Cinco De Mayo to commemorate the battle of Pueblo, or just to have a good time with family and friends, you most probably have tacos, nachos, burritos or enchiladas in mind. You are also probably thinking about Margarita’s, Daiquiris and Sangria. With Macarena music in the background, your fiesta will be moving and shaking in no time. Are we missing something here? Of course, the colorful decorations in bright Latin colors - oranges and reds, pinks and yellows, and lime green.
Cinco De Mayo Decorations:
- Door decorations form an integral part of Mexican decor. There is a lot of variety of life size cut-outs of Mexican characters, Maracas , Drums, Cacti, Sombreros and room/scene settings available on the Internet. You could use these to decorate the entrance to your party.
You could click pictures of people as they start arriving at the party. Your guests would love the idea and these pictures and they can act as pretty favors also by putting them in bright red, yellow or green photo frames.
- Another great idea is to have chili-pepper lights along the path leading up to the door.
- Display a fiesta photo-yard sign to liven up the party space.
Terracotta Chili Decor Piece: To bring out the whole southwestern theme in your cinco de mayo decor, use a lot of terra-cota pots. You could have a live chili plant on display in a terracotta pot. In case you do not have a chili plant but do have a money plant or any other green ornamental plant, you could display that and have chili-peppers between the leaves like in the image below.
To prepare the chili, pierce the stem ends with a piece of number-24 floral wire. Double the wire back after piercing the stem end so that there is enough wire left for you to stick the pepper into the pot at a desired height.
Chili Pepper Wreaths Decorations: Chili pepper ristaras and wreaths also look attractive. If you are having the party outdoors you could hang them from tree branches along with chili pepper lights. They look good when used to border the buffet-table also.
Other Cinco De Mayo Decorations/Centerpiece Tips:
- Use Mexican flag garland around the party area.
- Citronella candle pots or torches would look great and keep the insects away as well.
- Another must for a Mexican fiesta is a piñata. Again a wide variety of these are available on the net to choose from. (Link: Read More On Cinco De Mayo Games)
- And of course you have balloons, which are always a party favorite.
- For the center pieces around individual tables you could use these chili planters.
- Decorate with sombreros and flowers. You could use a sombrero of any size , turn it upside down, place a piece of foam inside the hollow, and make an arrangement of any kind of flowers. You could use baby’s breath to line the rim of the sombrero so that the foam is not visible. Click here to understand about 8 basic styles of flower arrangements.
- A terracotta tray with floating candles in the shape of flowers looks great too.
- Cacti look good as a centerpiece just by themselves or teamed with red, yellow and green bell-peppers.
- If you have Mexican rugs, throw them around the party space for a more colorful look.
Que Lo Pases Bien! (Have a good time)!!!
